Honor Choir Audition

Last weekend I auditioned for Honor Choir. There is a festival every year - this year in March - to a different school each year. International schools from around the world come together to sing chorus songs as a very large choir. This is not a competition, but rather, a chance to improve your sining ability in a large group and make new friends from around the world in the process. I did something similar through AMIS as an eighth grader. The competition of it, however, is getting to join this large choir and to do this we needed to audition. Last Saturday, I came to school and recorded a few songs with my teacher using GarageBand. Each recording started with the phrase, "I am Alto 1." These recording are then sent to a panel of judges from numerous places throughout the world who then go through, judging every singer, to decide who is accepted into this year's Honor Choir. They then communicate with the other judges and then email the singer's names out. I realized how technology has even affected something as simple as audition. An audition used to consist of one singer standing in front of a few judges with a line of singers outside awaiting their turn. Now, however, we can use technology to make this easy to internationally audition students.

  1. That is a really interesting point! Even somewhat everyday activities, or rituals, and going digital. At some point, will our whole lives be virtual, and online? Where is the line between technology hindering us, or helping us? In this case, technology seems to actually be a great asset to the process.
    Thanks!

  2. That is a good point, India, because technology can easily hinder us. There are positives and negatives that come with the uses of technology.
