Green

Today, I was talking to two of my friends during lunch when one mocked the idea of "going green." The other agreed so I decided to question it. I have always been a supporter of "going green" and have been struggling to understand why people would be against it. I mean, it is one thing to just, like Eeyore, say "Why bother?" but entirely another to be against recycling, stopping climate change, and everything else that falls under the "green" category. I have yet to receive a full response. I heard some remarks of how Al Gore, of "An Inconvenient Truth," is a hypocrite because "flying in a private jet [as Gore does] does more than four times the carbon emission damage to the environment than flying a regular commercial jet." Though this may be true, I fail to see how Gore's hypocrisy makes his ideas wrong. I will continue this conversation soon and try to ask others, because I am still very intrigued to learn why other people have the views that they do.
I came across a similar situation earlier in the school year when my teacher put a non-recyclable item in the recycling bin. I called him on it and he said, "Really? You're one of those..." I told him that yes, yes I was "one of those" and proud to be one. I am still at a loss as to why anyone would choose to not recycle and am disappointed that people can't understand the importance of recycling and "going green."

    Global warming has not been proven. Despite all the scientists saying that it is real it is obviously a myth. Nobody should go green because the environment is fine. We are just going through an age and it will pass, even though the heat rise is so much larger than in any other period. Al Gore should bike from county to country to save as much fuel as possible, it would get him around nearly as fast. Climate change is a total myth and not caused by humans, despite the hole in the ozone layer caused by humans. This winter it snowed in America showing that the temperature is not warming up and this is all a government conspiracy theory to make us scared.

    I think that is a really interesting point that, though Gore may be a hypocrite, that doesn't mean his ideas are wrong. I totally agree.
    One question for Matt; so you believe that Global Warming is a total myth, and that we are just going though a warm period in history? Really?
    How did you come to this conclusion? I think it's a really interesting point, I was just wondering why?
