This lamp may not seem very interesting at first glance but when I read into it more I realized this is actually a really cool invention. I'm surprised it hasn't been thought of before, because it really is handy. This new technology is a very small desklamp that is powered by a phone jack. This means it doesn't use up much power. Also, one thing I didn't know is that when your power goes out, that does not include the phone jack, so you can still receive phone calls, and now, have the light of a desklamp. This is extremely useful and very cheep. The actual lamp costs and mere $6 and the power of telecoms makes it absolutely free. This is also fantastic for frequent travelers or movers like myself because most phone jacks are universal.
Candles aren't very fire safe and flashlights require batteries and may be easily lost in the back of a drawer, proving difficult to find when the power is out. This desklamp can be on and stay on through a power outage. The downside, however, is that it cannot be carried around like a candle or flashlight, because it must be plugged in. Also, the biggest issue with this desklamp is that it is not very bright at all. Hank Green critiqued the product in the article below, saying it is very difficult to read in the dark and provides hardly any light at all. This is a very drastic drawback, but hopefully they can produce a new and improved, lighter version in the future.
